The Highwood Cycling Club takes its name from the regions of the Highwood River basin including the surrounding Highwood Pass and the Eastern slopes of the Alberta foothills. Operating out of the towns of High River and Okotoks and only 35 kilometers from Longview at the entrance to the Highwood valley and pass in Kananaskis country. High River and Okotoks as well as the surrounding Foothills region is a perfect staging point for world class cycling in the mountains or on the road. Equally, we can also just take it easy and mix the simple pleasures of the bike with, nature, magnificent vistas and great people.

Highwood Cycling exists primarily on two levels, a recreational club and a racing team. The club participates in all styles of bicycle sport, including road, mountain, track, and cyclocross. Our goal is to provide club members with an opportunity to increase their cycling knowledge, skill and overall fitness, so that we may all enjoy the benefits of cycling for our body, mind, and spirit.

The future continues to look great for Highwood Cycling. We are pleased at continued growth of our club and your possible involvement. Highwood Cycling has made incredible progress during its' first three years of existence. Listed below are some of our goals for the 2010 calendar year:

  • Increase awareness through community outreach in our communities, in an effort to collaborate, communicate and participate collectively in fundraising events (i.e. Rona MS Tour; Highwood Pass Peak Classic).
  • Continue to establish the club as a cycling force in the Foothills and expand our racing program to aid in the development of young talent (see past racing results).
  • Continue to work with the Alberta Park Service to assist with the upkeep of our off-road trail system; this year the club plans to participate in various trail cleaning efforts
  • Lead a Highwood Cycling event to promote fitness and help raise money for charities; the club supports cycling events in our communities and will continue to promote cycling events that can focus on health/fitness and charity fundraising.
  • Support our active club sponsors, who help support our club; the club will be establishing multiple efforts to show its' appreciation to its' sponsors.
  • It truly is simple - we succeed because of our members and sponsors.

Member Requirements
